Laptop SSD & RAM upgrade guide

Before you replace a slow laptop, check whether an SSD and more RAM can save it. Often they can.

What fits

Know your slots

2.5" SATA SSD

Replaces an old 2.5" hard disk — fits most older laptops.

M.2 SSD

Newer laptops have an M.2 slot — SATA or NVMe. The slot decides which works.

RAM

Laptops use SO-DIMM RAM (DDR3 or DDR4 on most older models). Check the maximum supported.
